WILLIAM B. KUNZIG (1910 - 2008) Brigadier General, best known for training the Army Rangers for the D-Day Invasion and writing their training manual, then assigned as the head of Troop Movements Section of Gen. Omar Bradley's First Army as the Allies pushed east across Europe. In this role, he received the Legion of Merit for directing the transfer of 248,000 military personnel and 48,700 vehicles in a ten-day period during the Ardennes breakthrough. His truly impressive M-1950 or 'IKE' style jacket, custom tailored, bearing a custom made, fourteen award ribbon bar sewn above his top left pocket flap, each hand sewn on a matching color material backing cloth. The awards are as follows: the 'Legion of Merit' with 1 oak leaf cluster, the 'Bronze Star Medal', the 'Air Medal' with 1 oak leaf cluster, the 'Army Commendation Medal', the 'American Defense Service Medal' with 1 bronze star, the 'American Campaign Medal', the 'European/African/Middle Eastern Campaign Medal', with FIVE bronze stars (not 1 single Silver star as it should be according to regulations), the 'Asiatic/Pacific Campaign Medal', the 'WWII Victory Medal', the 'Korean Service Medal' with an impressive SIX bronze stars - (also not one Silver star and one Bronze star, as is regulated), the 'Army of Occupation Medal', the 'National Defense Service Medal', the 'United Nations Service Medal', and lastly, the 'Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation' (this citation is sewn on the wrong side of the jacket, also against regulations.) Each shoulder epaulette has a single silver insignia. The upper collar lapel bears a pair of matching, yet un-hallmarked, 'US' pins, and the lower lapel bears a matching pair of crossed rifles insignia. The upper right shoulder sleeve bears a round cloth patch for former service in the Ninth Corps, the right lower sleeve bears eight stitched overseas bars while the left upper sleeve bears a round cloth patch for current service in the Seventh Corps. The interior is fully lined and in excellent condition, with the ink stamp 'K8825W' on the left inside pocket - matching General Kunzig's serial number. Very good to near fine condition. This uniform includes a pair of matching regulation trousers, also stamped with Kunzig's serial number on the interior. Good condition, with a few stains and some minor pocket edge fraying. The lot includes eighteen pages of computer scanned photos and biographical research on General Kunzig. From a major private collection on public display.

Shipments are sent via FedEx and DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option. Due to complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will ship with USPS Priority Mail only if the buyer submits their request to us in writing and accepts responsibility for delayed shipments. Signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
