Excessively rare uncorrected first edition of Mao Zedong's 'Quotations of Chairman Mao' (commonly called the 'Little Red Book'), (n.p., probably Beijing: Central Intelligence Bureau of the Chinese People's Liberation Army), [May 1964]. First edition, first state (with the red chop to front flyleaf), 250pp. 16mo., error to pp. 82-83 uncorrected. Complete with frontispiece portrait of Mao and the disgraced Lin Biao's calligraphic endorsement leaf, half-title page printed in red, title page in red and green. Cover in full red vinyl textured plastic embossed with the title and a star. This protective jacket is fitted between the white cardboard covers of the book. This is the rarest of the first editions, lacking any correction to pages 82 and 83, with the typographical error to the first character on page 83. Lacking the errata slip. Damp stain to first few pages, rear flyleaf foxed a bit, else very good. From the collection of Justin Schiller, the recognized expert on printings of Mao's works.
