Description:

A rare Third Reich dress sword of the "Prinz Eugen" pattern, produced by Solingen maker Carl Eickhorn as part of their "Field Marshal" series. The sword, 32 1/2" blade, 37 1/2" overall, features a black celluloid grip wrapped with braided silver wire and protected by a swelled handguard and backstrap decorated with foliate patterns and a national eagle with folded wings and swastika at the pommel. The crossguard is decorated with a second national eagle and swastika, this example featuring spread wings. The metal components of the hilt have lost approx. 45% of their gilding, primarily to the backstrap and crossguard, with slight loosening to the wire wrapping encircling the grip. The blade is nickel-plated and bears Eickhorn's "squirrel" hallmark on the reverse ricasso. It shows some grease residue overall but entirely lacks nicks or flaking to the plating. The sword is housed in a black-finished steel scabbard, 33 1/2" long, with a single suspension ring and frog loop about 2" from the throat. The scabbard shows a few spots of wear and minor oxidation, but shows absolutely no dents or deformation. A fine example of one of the scarcer swords in the "Field Marshal" series.
