Description:

Good lot of five original U.S. Army Pictorial Service press photos, each 8" x 10" b/w, all depicting the signing of the final instrument dictating the surrender of Germany to Allied forces, executed in Berlin on May 8-9, 1945. The photos show the instrument being signed by German representatives Hans-Jürgen Stumpff, Wilhelm Keitel and Alfred Jodl and by Soviet representative Georgy Zhukov, and a toast to the occasion by Zhukov, Arthur Tedder, and Carl A. Spaatz, representing Great Britain and the United States, respectively. Each photo bears a U.S. Army Pictorial Service backstamp and negative identification number, a typed caption (all giving incorrect first names for the German officers present), and two censor's approval stamps. Also present is an additional period photo, 6 3/4" x 4 1/2" b/w, showing Zhukov exiting a building accompanied by aides, with an identifying inscription in Cyrillic on the verso indicating that the image shows him visiting the officer's club of the 5th Shock Army in Berlin at the war's end. Shows some silvering, with some toning to the verso, else very good. Six pieces.
