Description:

Excellent original photograph, 9" x 6 3/4" b/w, a view of Adolf Hitler signing a book alongside other notable NSDAP figures, including Josef Goebbels, Rudolf Hess, Hermann Esser, Heinrich Hoffmann, Christian Weber, Max Amann, and Ulrich Graf. The photo is affixed to a 9 1/4" x 13" mount, bearing a finely-penned caption in black ink: "Altes Partei-Bureau im Sternecker-brau in Munchen. Zur freundl[iche]. Erinnerung an den 8. November 1933." ("[The] Old Party Bureau in Sternecker-brau in Munchen. In friend[ly] Memory of November 8, 1933." The signature of another very early party member, Ferdinand Wiegand, first secretary of the "Deutsche Arbeiterpartei" (DAP), appears in black ink beneath the caption, along with an address in Leipzig. The photo shows a few spots of soiling and a small hole at the bottom left, while the mount shows additional small folds, soiling and bumps to the edges, else very good. The Sterneckerbräu was a brewery in Munich utilized by the earliest iterations of the NSDAP as their headquarters and meeting place. Hitler joined the party, then known as the "Deutsche Arbeiterpartei" ("German Worker's Party"), or DAP, during a meeting at the brewery on September 2, 1919. The photograph undoubtedly commemorates the establishment of the brewery as the Museum of the Nazi Party on November 8, 1933. This photo was also printed as a "cigarette card" from the set titled "Adolf Hitler", an example of which is included here.
