1509. MAURICE BRAZIL PRENDERGAST (1858 - 1924) American post-Impressionist painter, a member of "The Eight", one of the first Americans to espouse the work of Cezanne. Rare A.L.S. "Maurice B. Prendergast", 2pp., 8vo., "56 Mt. Vernon St., January 6th 1904", to Mrs. Hollowel. In part: "...How sorry I felt when Charlie [his brother] told me Mr. Hallowell was dead. I have heard Charlie's talking about him so much I felt as if I also had lost a good friend. And I am sure Charlie has for Mr. Hallowell has [sic] proved a splendid friend to him. It must have...proved a great blow to you. But you must have courage to face this great affliction...Mr. Hallowell passing away so Suddenly spared him the great misery of a Sick bed...".
