DEWEY (1902-1971) American lawyer and politician whose hearing helped break organized crime in New York, later presidential candidate who loss to Harry Truman remains one of the biggest upsets in U.S. political history. T.L.S. as Governor of New York, 1p. 4to., Albany, Dec. 18, 1946, to a Herbert P. Elliott, thanking his correspondent for his Christmas card and "...executives' data book..." Dewey signs boldly at the conclusion in black ink. Shows original mailing folds, else very good. WITH: ALBEN W. BARKLEY (1877-1956) Vice-president under Truman from 1949-53. Good association T.L.S., 1p. 4to., Washington, D.C., Nov. 15, 1954, to former U.S. Attorney General J. Howard McGrath, thanking his correspondent for his congratulations on Barkley's election as Kentucky senator. He signs boldly at the conclusion in blue ink. Shows original mailing folds with file holes at the top edge, else very good to fine. Two pieces.
