PHILIP FRANCOIS RENAULT
(ca. 1719-1750) French explorer and trader who left France in 1719 bound for America to exploit mineral on behalf of the Company of the West. Stopping in Santo Domingo to pick up 500 slaves, Renault was given large tracts of land to mine in what is now Missouri, and settled near Fort de Chartres. Renault also founded St. Philippe in Monroe Co., Illinois and operated the first viable lead mines in Missouri's Lead Belt. A.L.S. 2pp. 8vo., Santo Domingo, Aug. 8, 1719. Written in idiosyncratic French and not translated but mentioning such expected topics such as land. Some edge wear and heavy folds, still overall very good.

Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made.
