Description:

PHILIP D. REED PRESENTATION PLATTER
A fine association item, a 30" x 19" silver-plated tray given to industrialist PHILIP D. REED (1899-1989) as he was about to embark for London to serve as deputy to W. Averill Harriman who was heading the lend-lease mission to England. Previously, Reed was a senior consultant to the War Production Board and would become that board's Chief of the Bureau of Industries. In 1943, F.D.R. would appoint Reed to head the U.S. Mission for Economic Affairs in London. At center, the tray bears the initials of the organizations Reed had already served: "O.P.M. - W.P.B.", his own initials, his dates of service, and a symbol of an eagle clutching a large gear from which emanates tanks, planes and ships. The tray is covered with facsimile signatures of those who worked with Reed, including Edward Stettinius, Jr. and Nelson A. Rockefeller. Tarnished, otherwise very good. Reed would also serve as chairman of General Electric for 15 years.Requires third-party shipping. Please see Terms and Conditions of Sale.
