PHILIP COOK
(1817-1894) Confederate general, fought at Manassus, Antietam, Second Fredricksburg and Chancellorsville, where he was wounded. Cook was again wounded at Petersburg, but recovered to fight again at Cedar Creek and Shenandoah -- and wounded for a third time Fort Stedman! Turned to politics after the war, becoming Secretary of State for Georgia. Rare A.L.S. 1p. 4to., Atlanta, Oct. 28, 1890, on his Secretary of State letterhead to Hon. J. J. Vocelle regarding a land transfer, in part: "...Yours of the 21st instant with plot for 50 acres, application of James C. Wingate and the fee of $4.25 required by law received and I have the papers all made out...". Very good.
