BENJAMIN F. DAVIS
(1832 - 1863) Union colonel of the 8th N.Y. Cav. who led his regiment in the famous escape from Harper's Ferry, not losing a single man and capturing an ammunition train while en route. Killed in 1863 at Brandy Station. Rare war-date endorsement signed only three days before his death at Brandy Station, the largest cavalry battle in U.S. history. The endorsement, 3 1/4" x 2 1/4", reads: "Head Quarters 1st Cavalry Brigade June 6, 1863 Approved & respectfully Forwarded B. F. Davis Col. 8 N.Y. Cav. Condg. Brigade". Fine.

Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling, shipping and insurance charges will be added to the invoice in one entry.
