Referring to the rapidly thinning ranks of RevolutionaryWar veterans, the notice, dated the day after Morris's death on November 22,1824, states that:"...All who, like him, devoted themselves to the greatcause of our revolution, are emphatically our benefactors. One by one, they arerapidly descending into the valley of death, and soon we shall have to lay theclod upon the last soldier of the revolution..."
