508. 1802 INDIAN TRANSLATOR'S OATH Most unusualmanuscript D.S. "R.C." in the text, 1p. 4to., [n.p., n.d., likelyGeorgia, ca. 1802], a promise by a translator that he will faithfully translatediscussions, presumably between American military officers and Indians. In part:"I R.C. [filled-in in a different hand] solemnly swear that to the best of myknolege explaine all talks given out by Daniel W. Murphy agent and all so allthe talks that the Indians gives in answer, to those given, and that I willneither add or diminish any thing to or from, and I all so solomnly swear that Iwill enforme said agent with all and everything that comes to my knolege...thatmay happen in the [Cherokee?] Nation...so help me God...". Phonetic spellingnot corrected. Verso bears a later notation: "Indian Affairs 1802". Paperis toned a bit, yet writing is very bold and overall very good. $300- 400
