PAUL VON HEYSE
(1830 - 1914) Prolific German poet and dramatist, winner of the 1910 Nobel Prize for Literature. A.L.S. 1p. 8vo., Munich, Apr. 13, 1874, in German to renowned literary translator Emil Lehmann, who had submitted Charles Dickens's holiday fantasy story (A Christmas Carol?) for publication in Heyse's journal. Heyse responds that he is unable to use the story in the November issue featuring "…foreigners, since we have to limit ourselves to novels in the true sense…". With a docket by EMIL LEHMANN, Dickens' German translator, at bottom: "holiday fantasies etc. Dickens". Very good condition. With a sepia real-photo postcard of Heyse.
