(1909-1984) African-American writer, author of If He Hollers Let Him Go and a series of Harlem Detective novels. T.L.S. 1p. 4to., Brooklyn, Nov. 29, 1945, to the editor of The Cleveland Plain Dealer, Ted Robinson. In part: "…Thank you for the copy of your review of my book, 'If He Hollers Let Him Go'…I was deeply impressed by your complete understanding of the psychological compulsions I endeavored to show in the story; and am very grateful for your clear, concise interpretation. I find that many people in New York entirely missed the point…For your information, I graduated from East High School in Cleveland in January, 1926, and attended Ohio State University…In the fall of 1941 my wife and I moved to Los Angeles, where I was employed in shipyards, aircraft, and other war industries. I received a Rosenwald Fellowship in May, 1944, and came to New York to have my first book published…". With original envelope, very good condition.
