Description:

PAUL TIBBETS
(d. 2008) American bomber pilot of the Enola Gay which delivered the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, August 6, 1945. A unique Tibbets-signed items, a genuine B-29 hatch cover, aluminum, approx. 29" diameter with rubber gasket and clear perspex viewing window, clearly having seen much use, boldly signed in black marker: "Paul Tibbets PILOT B29 ENOLA GAY 6 AUG, 1945". Also signed by Memphis Belle pilot ROBERT MORGAN (1919-2004) whose B-17 was the first to complete 25 missions over Europe. Morgan then went to the Pacific, and on his first mission led the first B-29 attack on Tokyo. He likewise signs in black marker, adding: "Pilot of 1st B-29 raid on Tokyo on 11-24-44 'Dauntless Dotty'". A fine association of two of the war's finest pilots, on an irreplaceable relic!
