DANIEL PATTERSON (1786 - 1839) American naval officer, defeated the pirate Jean Laffite, capturing six of his vessels, and was the first to defend New Orleans against the British, providing critical support to Andrew Jackson. Scarce manuscript L.S., 1p. 4to., penned aboard the frigate United States, "Harbor of Mahon", Sep. 1, 1832 ordering a man aboard the Boston to report to the Brandywine. Light dampstain affects right side of letter detracting little, chip at bottom left, still quite good. Else $150 - 200
