Missing in action at the Little Big Horn, presumed dead. Scarce partly-printed D.S. "J. G. Sturgis" as Colonel of Cavalry, 1p. oblong folio, "Fort Hays", June 29, 1869, a 7th Cavalry appointment of Pierre A. Banker as Sergeant Major. Co-signed by MILES MOYLAN, (1838 - 1909), American military officer, a captain in command of Co. A of the Dakota Column of the 7th Cavalry, one of the three units that followed Major Marcus Reno in the unsuccessful attack to the southern end of Sitting Bull's village. Moylan was later a Medal of Honor winner for service against the Nez Perce. Folds, light toning at margins clear of signature, very clean and in good condition. $800 - 1,000
