Lot 42
PATRICK HENRY (1736 - 1799) American Revolutionary leader, with Jefferson and Lee initiated the Committee of Correspondence, member of the Continental Congress, remembered for his famous quote "Give me liberty, or give me death!" Partly-printed D.S. "P. Henry" as Governor of Virginia, 1p. 8" x 8", Richmond, June 24, 1785, an appointment of Thomas Parsons, John Darby, Littleton Eyre and Peter Bowdoin to serve as Justices of the Peace, boldly signed at bottom. The document bears some faults: it has been silked on verso, mounted, with early paper repairs filling-in missing area at top, along one fold, and a small part of the first two letters in Henry's signature, yet still entirely presentable.
