ORVILLE WRIGHT
(1871 - 1948) American inventor and a pioneer of flight, Wright, with his brother Wilbur, made the first successful flight of a motor-driven airplane. Uncommon D.S. "Orville Wright" as President of the National Aeronautic Association of U.S.A., 6pp. 3" x 4 1/4", an "Aviator's Certificate" issued to pilot Wayne J. Sheldon, July 26, 1930, certifying that the aviator had "fulfilled all conditions required by the Federation Aeronautique Internationale, as the governing authority for the United States of America…for an Aviator Pilot...". With blind-embossed seal tying Sheldon's photo to his signature on page 2, signed by Wright on the front paste-down. Disbound with rough margin where separated from binding, yet Wright's signature remains very good. Sold with Sheldon's brass pass admitting him to the 1930 National Air Races at Chicago.
