Description:

'OPERATION WERWOLF' PRISONER INTERROGATION
A lengthy, fine content typed report marked 'Secret', an interrogation conducted by American intelligence of a former Hitler Youth leader and Werwolf operative named Wilhelm Gause. The report is 8pp. legal folio, [n.p., n.d], and reads in small part: '...Subject proved difficult to interrogate owing to his reluctance to give away any of his collaborators in this affair. He is a tough and courageous man, who was earmarked for an important post in the organization under investigation. He had admitted much, but it is still not certain that he has told all...The HJ [Hitler Jugend] leaders had formed the organization which for want to a better name they had provisionally called 'Sammlung Der Anstaendigen' ('Association of Decent People')...ready to be used as bargaining factor when the opportunity presented itself. They had reckoned on war between the Western powers and Russia...Subject is most emphatic in denying that any violence would be used against our occupation army, but he admits that the organization was illegal...' Much more. Toned with file and staple holes to the left margin. 'Werwolf' refers to the Nazi plan to create a resistance organization that would operate behind enemy lines as the Allies advanced through Germany, and even afterwards. The extent to which the plan was successful is heavily debated, as some historians believe many of the actions associated with the 'Werwolf' were misconstrued as propaganda created by Joseph Goebbels.
