Description:

OKINAWA PHOTOGRAPHIC REPORT
Photographic Report, Okinawa Operation, L-Day, 1 April 1945 (Cover Title), a 76pp. collection of real photographic plates with captions, no text, no title pages, bound with binder clips and as issued. We believe that this publication was prepared by Fleet Adm. William L. Halsey in a very small edition for presentation to a limited number of his officers. Included are aerial photos of the landings, sunken Japanese suicide boats and their pens, destroyed Naha, infantry at Yontan, destroyed block houses, personnel shelters, hidden artillery, kamikaze aircraft striking vessels and being shot down, exploding Japanese aircraft, the attack on Ie Shima, and destruction of US vessels by kamikaze aircraft. Front cover detached and creased with a tape reinforcement, otherwise very fine. There is no doubt that these photos were not meant for public consumption due to the amount of military detail, notations in the plates, and morale-degrading content.
