OATH PROMISING TO EMANCIPATE SLAVES A most unusual loyalty oath incorporating a promise to emancipate slaves, 1p. 4to., Washington, Tenn., Oct. 25, 1865 in which one Henry Young, obviously a slave-owner, not only promises to "henceforth support, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Union of States therein..." but also: "...all laws and proclamations which have been made during the existing rebellion with reference to the emancipation of slaves..."
