Description:

NUREMBERG WAR CRIMES TRIALS, 'HOSTAGE' CASE NO. 7 COURT PROGRAM
Rare program given to those attending the Allied Military Tribunals, Case No. 7, 17pp. 4to., Nuremberg, ca. 1947-48, as issued by the Public Relations Office, Office of the Chief Counsel. The text of the program sets forth the indictment levied against the defendants, as set forth by Brig. Gen. and Chief of Counsel for War Crimes, TELFORD TAYLOR on May 10, 1947. Before the indictment appears a seating diagram of the courtroom, though the key to that diagram, was either printed on a separate leaf or mistakenly excluded from this edition, as the pagination in this program is correct. Some toning to the cover, else very good. Allied Military Tribunals, Case No. 7 refers to the Hostage Case (officially United States of America v. Wilhelm List, et al.), which was one of the twelve Subsequent Nuremberg Trials held by the United States. The defendants were charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity, specifically with murdering thousands of civilians in Greece, Yugoslavia, and Albania in reprisal for partisan attacks, issuing orders that denied POWs rights, and ordering the wanton devastation of property in Norway and other countries not justified by military necessity. Eight defendants were found guilty and sentenced to prison terms ranging from life to ten years; two were acquitted.
