NICHOLAS I(1796 - 1855) Russian czar, his accession to the throne was marred by the Decembrist uprising, his reign was noted for its autocracy, bureaucracy, and militarism. Partly-printed D.S. "Nikolai" as Czar, 2pp. legal folio, St. Petersburg, Feb. 1, 1847, in Cyrillic to His Majesty the King of Two Sicilies, Ferdinand II. In part: "...Apprising Your Royal Majesty with cordial pleasure that, by the goodness of the All-Highest, Our Daughter [in-law], Her Imperial Highness the Grand Duchess Maria Nikolayevna [wife of future Czar Alexander II]...was safely delivered of a son, who is named Evgenii...". Prominent folds with a small hole at middle, else very good. With original address leaf.
