Lot 1091
1091. NEWSPAPER ACCOUNT OF LITTLE BIG HORN A very rare account of the battle of Rose Bud and of Custer's defeat at the battle Little Big Horn in which Gen. Sheridan denies that any disaster occurred as reported in The Daily Humboldt Register, Winnemucca, Nevada, July15, 1876. Appearing in a paragraph on page two, headed "The Sioux War" dated Chicago, July 14 noting "The commanding officer at the Red Cloud agency reports to Gen. Sheridan that affairs at the agency are very uncertain, owing to the news of Custar's [sic] defeat and a failure to supply the Indians with provisions. Gen. Crook's official report of the battle of Rosebud, June 17, says the loss was ten killed and twenty-one wounded. No advices in regard to latter operations have been received by Gen. Sheridan, who feels confident that no disaster has happened to him...". Much more interesting content including a letter from President Grant on corruption in his administration. Rather rough margin, but still quite nice, else very good $300 - 400
