1092. (GEORGE A. CUSTER) Continuing coverage of Custer and the 7th Cavalry at Little Big Horn as reported in The Hartford Daily Times of July 7, 1876, 4pp. imp. folio. The articles read in part: "The following despatches [sic], received b General Sheridan at Philadelphia from General Terry, commanding the expeditions against the Indians, confirm the first impression, that General Custer's defeat and death, and the terrible slaughter of his command, where the result of his own fool-hardiness, and indicate that fin his rashness he went so far as to disobey positive orders, seemingly in the hope of defeating the redskins with his pet regiment alone, in order to gain all the glory there would be in the achievement...". According to Terry's letter of July 2, Custer was not to move to the Little Big Horn, "...that he should send scouts over it, and keep the main force further to the south, so as to prevent the Indians from slipping in between himself and the mountains....". Other reports include details on the care of the wounded noting the great difficulty in transporting them as well as a description of how the news was received in Custer's hometown Monroe Mich. of Much more fine content. Light creases, a few minor marginal tears, otherwise very good. $150 - 200
