Description:

NAVAL AIRCRAFT FACTORY FLOATPLANE EVALUATION PHOTO ARCHIVE
Large archive of 55 original b/w photographs, depicting the testing of four types of post-World War I floatplanes for U.S. Navy service. Fourteen images depict the Naval Aircraft Factory N2N, with one overall image and one depicting the aircraft taxiing for takeoff, with the majority showing the construction of the aircraft and such details as the framing of its pontoons. Only three of these aircraft were built. Eight images show the Naval Aircraft Factory PT-P (or PT-1), with one overall view of the aircraft on the tarmac and a fine series of seven shots of it taking off and in flight. Fourteen images show the Douglas DT torpedo bomber, the company''s first military contract, in both floatplane and land-based configurations. These views again include several overall views and many shots of the aircraft''s construction and details. The final set of 19 photographs depict the installation and testing of experimental flotation bags on a French single-engine Hanriot fighter, most likely an HD.2 or HD.3 variant. As before, these images include overall and detail views, in-flight images and several shots of the flotation tests themselves. The majority of the photos are affixed to period cloth backings, most bearing typed captions and dates, and with the Naval Aircraft Factory backstamp visible through the backing on many examples. Very good, should be seen.
