BON-ADRIEN, JEANNOT DE MONCEY, 1st DUKE OF CONEGLIANO (1754-1842) Marshal of France, a prominent leader of in the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars, distinguished himself during the War of the Pyrenees and during the Italian Campaign. A.L.S. ‘duc de Coneglianes' 1p. 4to., La Vaivre, Jan. 18, 1825, to the commander of the royal corps attached to the 16th military division, in part: ‘…I have the honor of informing you of the receipt of your letter and assuring you that it is very agreeable to me to receive your news; and to know that you are still actively employed. I have sought often to revive my proposals for promotion, but so far have had no success. Marshal [Gabriel Jean Joseph] Molitor and I definitely propose to intercede anew at the time of the coronation [of Charles X]. Perhaps I shall succeed. I have been happy in all that concerns you, for your services under my orders have merited the grace of the King, and it is with much regret, that they were not more rewarded…'. With integral address leaf and his black seal intact, boldly penned and very good.
