Description:

NAPKIN RINGS CAPTURED FROM ADOLF HITLER'S TRAIN
Set of five silver-plated napkin rings captured from Adolf Hitler's private train and brought home by Dwight D. Eisenhower's Executive Officer and aide de camp. The napkin rings bear the engraved letters "D R" for "Deutsches Reichsbahn", and also bear the proper "B" and locomotive hallmark indicating railroad usage. Each also bears an individual number on one side indicating that it would be used for a particular place setting. Each napkin ring measures 2 1/4" across and 1/4" tall. A bit of tarnish, else fine condition. From the estate of the recipient, Col. Ernest "Tex" Lee, who served throughout the war as Eisenhower's Executive Officer and Aide de Camp. Lee joined Ike in June, 1941 and assisted in the planning of the invasions at Normandy and the ultimate defeat of Germany. Accompanied by a letter from Lee's direct descendant indicating how Col. Lee had told his family that these items had originated from Hitler's train, had been shipped home by him, and had remained in Lee's family ever since. Hitler's private train, code named "Amerika", consisted of a locomotive (later two), two armored antiaircraft cars, two baggage cars, Hitler's pullman, conference car with communications, escort car for 22 SS security soldiers, two dining cars, two sleeping cars for entourage, a bath car, three cars for personnel and press, and power-engine cars.
