Description:

NAMED U.S. ARMY OF OCCUPATION SERGEANT'S UNIFORM TUNIC
World War I-era U.S. Army M1912 khaki cotton summer-weight uniform tunic, displaying an embroidered felt patch depicting the insignia of the Third Army, also called the Army of Occupation, sewn to the left-hand shoulder, above a faded red embroidered felt discharge chevron. Two metallic gold overseas service chevrons are displayed at the left-hand cuff, with a multi-piece felt and cloth sergeant's rank insignia on the right-hand shoulder. No collars disks are present. The uniform is closed at front with three darkened brass buttons depicting the U.S. seal, attached with split rings and each marked by a Newark, New Jersey maker on the reverse. Two additional buttons are missing. Four flap-covered patch pockets are sewn at the breast and waist, the flaps of each secured with smaller darkened brass buttons, also attached through the fabric with split rings. Two similar buttons secure the tapered shoulder straps. A cloth New York Quartermaster's Depot label identifying the maker as Hyman Levy of New York is sewn within the right-hand waist pocket, also bearing the stamped name of the owner: ‘Michael Pienecker'. The tunic is unlined and shows a few spots of soiling, but is otherwise in very good condition.
