NELSON A. MILES (1839 - 1925) Union major general who fought through the entire Civil War, guarded Jefferson Davis after his capture, and gained greater fame as an Indian fighter and captor of Geronimo. S.P. 5" x 6 1/2" sepia, showing Miles in uniform in a waist, up pose. by Rice of Washington, D.C., 1900. Boldly inscribed on mat separate from image: "For Mr. Henry B. F. MacFarland, with the compliments and best wishes of Nelson A. Miles Lieutenant General U.S. Army ". Handsomely matted in dark brown and set into a dark wood and gilt frame. Fine condition, unexamined out of frame. $300-400
