THOMAS MIFFLIN (1744 - 1800) American Revolutionary officer, President of the Continental Congress, major general, and member of the Constitutional Convention. Scarce war date A.D.S. "T. Mifflin " as Deputy Quartermaster General, 1p. oblong 16mo., Morristown, [N.J.], July 6, 1777, a brief account of tools "Sent to Genl. Schuyler " in Albany including "100 Shovels, 100 Spades 62 Picks" all delivered by Martin Sheeler, "Waggoner " as well as "24 Spades, 127 Shovells, and 93 Picks " delivered by George Shrader. These tools would likely figure prominently later that year when Gates' army would build fortifications at Saratoga in preparation to block Burgoyne's advance on Albany. Tape marks at extreme corners, light soiling, otherwise very good. $300-400
