Description:

MEMORIAL CONCERT FOR TITANIC'S BAND
A rare imprint, "The 'Titanic' Band Memorial Concert", possibly a fundraiser for the families of the heroic band that played on as the doomed liner sank, 20pp. 8vo., given at the Royal Albert Hall on Empire Day, May 24, 1912 in which no less than seven different orchestras with conductors including Edward Elgar played eleven selections, opening with Chopin's "Funeral March" and concluding with what many believe was the last piece played by the band, the hymn "Nearer My God to Thee". All orchestra members are named, and a special black-bordered "In Memoriam" page lists the names of the eight band members who perished on the Titanic six weeks earlier. Moderate foxing to covers, which are also worn, and several pages within are foxed as well, otherwise very good. Ex: Christie's
