GEORGE G. MEADE (1815 - 1872) Union major general who commanded brilliantly at Gettysburg, leading to a Union victory and the turning point of the Civil War. A fine war-date S.P. "Geo. G. Meade ", a carte-de-visite photograph bearing a sepia 3/4 length image of Meade in uniform. Boldly signed on mount with a F. Gutekunst, Philadelphia backstamp and a tax stamp dated Nov 23, 1864. This photograph was likely taken in the Autumn of 1864 when Meade took a short leave of absence to visit his home. Small nick along bottom portion of photograph, otherwise very good to fine condition. $1,500-2,000
