MAX PEMSEL
(1897-1985) German World War II general, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross in December of 1944 for preventing encirclement by Soviet forces and successfully opening the Petsamo-Kirkenes road which had previously been cut off. He was also the first general to report the D-Day invasion. T.L.S. on airmail letterhead, 1p. 8vo., Munich, Apr. 26, 1978, setting forth the dates of his promotions during the war, the date he was awarded his Knights Cross, and adding: "...I never met Hitler during World War II...". Very good.
