1080. IWANE MATSUI (1878 - 1948) Japanese general, commander of the expeditionary forces sent to China. He was sentenced to death by hanging by the International Military Tribunal for the Far East for being responsible for the Nanking Massacre. Rare S.P. 4 1/4" x 6" b/w, a seated image of Matsui seated and reading a newspaper, signed adding his rank as general. Trimmed at top and bottom, light crease affecting first letter in signature, else very good. Photo clearly taken as he awaited trial in Tokyo for war crimes. $300 - 400
