Description:

MATA HARI (1876 - 1917) Dutch dancer, courtesan and spy, she was a successful Parisian dancer who seduced many French military officers, was arrested on charges of being a German spy and was finally executed by a firing squad. Superb I.S.P. 8" x 10", a full-length b/w portrait of the dancer in full seductive garb, inscribed in French: "To the child of my soul in memory of times gone by, Martha". It is unclear whether the message is intended for one of her two children, but it seems a possibility. Very good condition, backed on brown stock, no creases or abrasions. Ink a bit uneven, otherwise inscription fine.
