Description:

MARQUIS DE LAFAYETTE COMMEMORATIVE RIBBON
An unusual silk ribbon honoring the Marquis de Lafayette ca. 1824, measuring approx. 2" wide x 8 1/2" tall, printed in black and showing a vignette of Liberty with Lafayette's portrait at middle. A scroll above reads "Honour Gratitude and Public Esteem", while his ship, the Cadmus appears in the background. Beneath this it reads: "Sold at No. 18 Nth 3rd St." in tiny type. Most likely issued to commemorate the arrival of Lafayette and his son, George Washington Lafayette, in New York in 1824. Very light staining clear of image, overall very good condition.
