MARIA EDGEWORTH
(1767-1849) English novelist, the author of the seminal gothic novel Castle Rackrent (1800), a friend of Lord Byron and Sir Walter Scott. A lot of two A.L.S. the first 2pp. 8vo., "Edgeworths Town" [in Ireland], Nov. 14, [illeg.], on black-bordered mourning letterhead to a cousin, in part: "...I found that I had misinformed you respecting C. S. Edgeworth's intention in his subscription towards the relief of the poor...[it] is 50L and we wish that this sh[oul]d be known...of this 50£, twenty pounds will be given to Edgeworths Town...I hope my dear cousin that...I shall not have occasioned you any inconvenience...". Along with a second A.L.S. signed in text "Miss Edgeworth", 2pp. 8vo., Edgeworths Town, Feb. 22, 1830, in part: "...Miss Edgworth's compliments to Mr. C. Giffard - she has hear from Miss Smith...that he was so obliging as to take charge of a book...which was brought from Paris for her...". Both bear mounting remains to left edges of verso, otherwise very good. Two pieces.
