MANUAL OF BAYONET EXERCISE, IDENTIFIED TO A UNION CAPTAIN
A good Union officer's copy of George B. McClellan's work, Manual of Bayonet Exercise: Prepared for Use of the Army of the United States (Philadelphia: J. B. Lippencott & Co., 1862) 8vo. 118pp. with 24 plates, bound in cloth boards. Some rubbing to boards and spine, some foxing and light toning to pages, else very good. Ownership signature on front blank flyleaf "Capt C[alendar] Rohrbough 118th Ills M[oun]t[e]d Infy Vols". The 118th was formed in response to Lincoln's call for troops of July 2, 1862 and first served first along the Mississippi suffering severely in assaults on Vicksburg. The regiment, by then entirely mounted, later served in Louisiana seeing action at Vermillionville.
