Description:

M1889 ‘JAGER ZU PFERDE' CAVALRY OFFICER'S PRESENTATION SWORD
An Imperial German M1889 cavalry officer's sword, 33 in. blade, 38.25 in. overall, featuring a brightly-polished basket-style steel hilt depicting a Prussian eagle. The grip is brown ribbed bakelite with an index finger stop. The plated blade features a wide fuller along two-third of its length, and the ricasso side is finely engraved with a floral motif and a banner bearing the motto ‘Zur Erinnerung an meine Dienstzeit' (‘In Remembrance of my Time in Service'). The obverse of the blade continues the floral motif, surrounding a horse's head and the regimental title ‘Jager zu Pferde XI A. C.' The spine of the blade is stamped with the numeral ‘7' at the ricasso, with A. C.' on the underside; no other marks are present. The blade shows one or two small chips to the plating and run marks, with slight freckling beneath the plating at the ricasso. The inside of the hand guard minor freckling throughout, and there is oxidation to the pommel nut. The leather buffer at the ricasso is missing. The sword is housed in a blued steel scabbard with one immobile suspension loop, showing some spots of oxidation throughout. In very good condition overall.
