Description:

An unbelievable file from the Soviet state security agency, the M.G.B., 74pp. folio, the 1949 criminal dossier of Yuri Lepchinsky, a Red Army soldier who was charged with treason and desertion during World War II. Lepchinsky, born in 1921, was captured by German forces while on the Soviet front lines near the city of Mogilev in August 1942. According to the dossier, he then took an oath of allegiance to German commanders in January 1943 and joined the 47th Ukrainian Police battalion in Minsk. During this service, Lepchinsky performed in numerous concerts ran by Germans, playing fascist hymns and anti-Soviet songs. In 1944, he was transferred to the front line to directly fight Soviet troops, where he was awarded the"Western Medal" by the Germans. After the war, Lepchinsky returned to Russian city of Arkhangelsk, where he taught music theory courses until the beginning of his arrest in April 1949. The dossier numerous items signed by Soviet officials and the grouping documents the entirety of his criminal proceedings, including the initial investigation into his betrayal, the search of his home and seizure of his belongings, his months of continued detention before seeing a trial, as well as his final sentence given by military tribunal in October 1949. Lepchinski was sentenced to 25 years in a forced labor camp, and his fate remains unknown. Minor toning and wear throughout, with ragged edges, all expected with age. Warrants further research!
