Description:

(1908-1973) Thirty-sixth President of the United States and creator of the "Great Society" social welfare programs. America's growing involvement in Vietnam led to his declining a renomination as president. Good association I.S.P., 11" x 14" b/w, signed beneath the image in black ink, adding the dedication "To Bob McKay with best wishes". The image depicts Johnson in conversation with another man, who we believe to be the recipient, National Education Association chairman Robert E. McKay. The photo is dated May 26, 1965, and likely shows McKay interviewing Johnson on his experiences as a teacher and his educational philosophy. The signature and inscription shows some minor brushing, with creases to the edge of the photo, which is affixed to a backing board, else very good. Also present is the period publication "This is Lyndon B. Johnson... The Man... And What He Stands For" (Washington, D.C.: Citizens for Johnson), [n.d.], 48pp. 4to., a well-illustrated and glowing examination of Johnson's life and career, likely published during his unsuccessful 1960 presidential campaign, which resulted in his being selected as the running mate of Democratic nominee John F. Kennedy. Two pieces.
