Description:

LOUIS PHILIPPE, COMTE DE PARIS
(1838 - 1894) Pretender to the French throne, head of the Legitimist Party, and a member of Union Gen. George McClellan's staff. A.L.S. 4pp. 8vo., "On board the S. S. Servia", Oct. 1, 1890, to a general, in part: "...As soon as I had taken leave of you this morning and saw we were fairly off eastward, I opened the two parcels...and I hasten to thank you...I read with interest your two letters to...Gen. Burnside. They throw great light upon facts which have been not a little obscured by party feelings. I regret very much not to have met the Lord of San Francisco on account of the straight forwardness with which...he acknowledged...the goodness of your cause. I was glad that the dinner given to me by the late officers of the Army of the Potomac gave them the opportunity to congratulate you upon the tardy justice which has been at last rendered to you...I keep General Fry's letter for further consideration...". Boldly penned and very good.
