Description:

KRIEGSMARINE OFFICER'S ENGRAVED DAGGER WITH HANGER AND PORTEPEE
Very scarce Second Model dagger belonging to a Kriegsmarine line officer, 9.75 in. blade, 15 in. overall, bearing a double-sided engraved blade, white celluloid grip, and still-tightly wound gilt wire wrap. The pommel is in the shape of a national eagle with-half folded wings, clutching a wreath-encircled swastika. The crossguard depicts a fouled anchor at the center, with acanthus leaf designs on the quillions and release button at the center. The blade bears the maker's mark and initials of WKC from Solingen, and it is in excellent condition, with still-crisp etchings and just a few spots of corrosion. The scabbard is engraved with lightning-bolt motifs and oak leaf bands, with light tarnish throughout and notable oxidation to the bands. The dagger is sold with two original, detachable black moire straps with snap fasteners, with buckles bearing two gold lion's heads at each end. These straps are in used condition, with some light tears and wear consistent with age. The original aluminum wire portepee is still wrapped around the hilt, in very fine condition save for the occasional loose thread. A very desirable set.

Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house.
