KARL WOLFF
(1906-1975) Colonel-general in the Waffen-SS, liaison officer for Himmler with Hitler, German military governor of Northern Italy. Good lot of two T.Ls.S. 3pp. total, Mar. 29 and Aug. 26, 1939, both to Heinrich Himmler, in German, untranslated. The latter letter apparently concerns an inquiry by the notorious Theodor Eicke at Oranienburg about the equally notorious Fritz Hartjenstein, who would later command the of Birkenau, the death camp in Auschwitz. He was responsible for hundreds of thousands of gassings. In 1944, he was transferred to Natzweiler concentration camp and appointed commandant. He was subsequently transferred to Flossenbürg concentration camp, serving as commandant and would die while awaiting trial for his crimes. Some dampstains and a chip at right margin. The March 29 letter refers to a stay in a sanitarium by Karl von Eberstein, head of the Munich Police in World War II who introduced Reinhard Heydrich to Heinrich Himmler. File holes at left, else very good Two pieces.
