KARL KAUFMANN
(1900 - 1969) Nazi Gauleiter in Hamburg and head of the Nazi Party, and governor of Hamburg from 1933 until 1945. After Allied bombing in 1941, Kaufmann deported Jews from the city to the Lodz ghetto so that their homes could be used to house bombed-out Germans. Tried as a war criminal. Scarce D.S. with blind-embossed seal, 1p. large 4to., Hamburg, Nov. 9, 1937, the promotion of a government official to the position of administrative inspector. File holes at left, else fine.
