JOSEF BURCKEL
(1895 - 1944) German politician and Reichstag member, an early member of the NSDAP party and influential in the rise of the National Socialist movement. Burckel heavily promoted the Anschluss including promoting anti-Jewish decrees and seizing Jewish property. His extravagant lifestyle, financed through confiscated Jewish money and property, earned him the displeasure of the Nazi hierarchy and he was eventually removed from his post in Vienna. Scarce S.P. "Burckel", 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" b/w, a chest, up pose in civilian garb, boldly signed at bottom, contrast fair against the dark background. Fine, with an Aug. 14, 1935 letter of transmittal on his NSDAP letterhead, signed by a secretary.
