Description:

Jonathan Belcher 1682-1757 Colonial Governor of Massachusetts unsuccessful in his attempts to balance colonial and royal interests and embroiled in the Broad Arrow and New Hampshire boundary disputes. A.L.S. 1p. 8vo., Boston, May 28, 1728 to Mrs. Hannah Pickering. A nasty letter in which Belcher writes a widow demanding payment of 59 pounds due him, adding: .. my patience I think is unreasonably abused and I do not intend to give you any further trouble of this nature But shall take the first opportunity the law allows to recover my just due. Seal tear at top affects one word, otherwise very good.
